Typically, we use standard metal and wire braces to correct these problems.
The reason for repositioning teeth with metal braces is to help move protruding, overcrowded or crooked teeth. Conventional orthodontics (traditional braces) are still identified as the most effective treatment option for straightening teeth.
In today’s times, there are many alternative orthodontic treatments available that are promising patients the world. But the truth is, some of these alternative methods are not suitable for everyone. If you have severe overcrowding or a bite disorder, many of these alternative methods will be unable to correct this.
If you find yourself in the position of needing significant orthodontic treatment to be done to adequately straighten your teeth and correct issues such as an overbite or cross-bite, traditional braces are often the best option. These braces have proven their place in orthodontics over many years of straightening patients’ teeth and giving them a beautiful smile upon completion of the treatment.
Taking the long route
The zeitgeist of the 21st century is “immediacy” and today’s times are often described as the “microwave age” meaning that if we want something done, we want it done now and with instant gratification. When it comes to straightening your smile, there is indeed a time and place for treatments that offer near to immediate results, however, most cases call for the “long way” of doing things, i.e. traditional braces, is often best. We want to ensure that we can provide our patients with the best possible results, and sometimes the most effective option is in fact, traditional braces.
Though traditional braces do not promise a straighter smile overnight, the old adage rings true: “good things come to those who wait.”
